(Lead) Mountain Musings - "Nemesis The Warlock" March 2017

Nemesis The Warlock WIP - The alien has only been primed "Vallejo" Heavy Red
This month's randomly themed attempt to try and reduce my overwhelming collection of metal, plastic and resin miniatures has been well and truly side-tracked by my wish to paint up at least a couple of old plastic pre-painted "Wizkids" miniatures based upon the "2000 A.D." comic book series "Nemesis The Warlock". Indeed, I have even gone so far as to purchase a box of "Frostgrave" Cultists from "North Star Military Figures", as well as a few of their Cultist Sci-Fi Accessory Packs to create a horde of Termight Terminators...

Such sudden adoration for Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill's co-creation is entirely due to my recent reading of the character's colourfully-inked "seven-issue necro series" by "Eagle Comics", and as a result I'm rather keen to at least try and replicate some of the sword and sorcery madness the Feast of Zamarkland. For now though, I'll just be sticking to the title's two lead antagonists, the “fire-breathing demonic alien" himself, and his arch-nemesis Torquemada.
Torquemada WIP - The Grand Master of Termight has been undercoated and had his armour painted
As a result both of these "Indyclix" figures have been cut from their clicky-bases, super-glued onto approximately sized plastic circular bases and primed. In addition I have also removed Nemesis' horribly bendy Sword Sinister and replaced it with a far sturdier double-handed variant from a "Frostgrave" Soldiers sprue.

Somewhat frustratingly, I have also decided to simply replicate both models' colour schemes. I had hoped to perhaps paint Torquemada in the all-red armour first worn when he was just Termight's Chief of the Tube Police. But felt this would invariably clash with the large flowing red cloak the Warlock wears. Terra's bare-armed Grand Master will therefore be attired in silver-armour with a purple cape.
Plaguebearer WIPs - These daemons now need to be washed and dry-brushed
In addition to this rather surprising dabble with the leader of “the underground resistance organisation sworn to destroy the tyranny of Termight”, I have also managed to assemble and prime four more plastic "Games Workshop" Plaguebearers. Once finished these lesser daemons will greatly bolster my "Age Of Sigmar" Nurgle Host and provide me with a twenty-strong regiment of the Bilesword-wielding warriors.

  2. look forward to seeing what you do with Nemesis and Torquemada as they are some of my favourite 2000 ad characters. Good start on the additional plaguebearers, and hope the competition is going well

    1. Cheers Dave. I'm just reviewing the entire "Eagle Comics" reprints of "Nemesis The Warlock" on my comic review blog, if you want to add your thoughts? The first issue is here: http://thebrownbagaeccb.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/nemesis-warlock-1-eagle-comics.html

The additional plaguebearers are much needed, and will give the unit some resilience; something which is vital considering I usually field them at minimum strength (ten) and they attract so much attention.

The AHPC is coming towards its final few weeks, and I'm on track for my 500pt target thanks. I'll not be able to make my 100 x 28mm models goal, but it's given me an idea for a personal challenge next year :-)

  4. Given your enthusiastic reviews of the "Nemesis the Warlock" comics I'm not at all surprised you want to start this new project. I'm greatly looking forward to seeing the two main protagonists completed, your cultists and what you plan to do with them. The Indyclix Nemesis and Torquemada figures are okay, in my opinion, but not without faults. Both of mine had bent weapons, and I, too, would have preferred a Torquemada without the cloak. However, the Wargames Foundry versions, which I have, are far superior. They are well worth checking out, especially if you want to paint Torquemada in red armour with no cloak.

    2. Cheers Bryan, I do find my comic reviews rather distracting at times ;-) Still the world of Termight/Terra is just too good to miss, and I'm hoping to see just how many minis related to this project I can paint before the month is over.

  8. Nemesis isn't one of the character's I was ever really that into back in the day I never really took to him until the ABC warriors were drafted into his strip. But saying that this look like it could be a fun little diversion, best of luck with it.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thanks Roger. I am hoping to expand upon these two characters if I can with both the "Frostgrave" sci-fi cultists and the "Mongoose Publishing" ABC Warriors too.

Did you get my email order alright?

  14. After the i felt i had pitgrown the Beano, Eagle was my first "bigboy" comic I ever subscribed to and thusly my first intro to the 2000AD comix-verse in general.
The Nemesis story whilst not at all fresh in my addled memory warms the cockles of my middle-aged heart. I'm rather looking forward to seeing what else you'll have in store for this project.

    1. Thanks Dai. I'm hoping to give Nemesis and Torquemada at least enough models for a little battle or so.
